You may want to keep your line length to something below 80 chars,
better even around 65 to 75 chars. It's much more readable
that way. (log lines & co though should not be brapped, IMHO).

Looks like the tape has a hardware error (fatal). Nothing ftape
can do, I think. Does formatting work under DOS or Windows?
