- first, ftape must NOT be compiled into the kernel (So "ftape support" = NO, when you
configure your kernel)
- second: After having unpacked the ftape package, there are three steps:
        - editing MCONFIG
        - make
        - make install
        And now you will have three modules, including ftape-internal.

Yes, under kernel 2.2.x ONLY the unstable ones will work; they can be found at

        http://www.math1.rwth-aachen.de/~heine/ftape/archives/ftape-4.x/unstable/

Download them, unpack them, edit MCONFIG, and make, make install.
