Oh, Ok.  I did misread. :-)
So, which patch did fail?  You may want to look at the XXX.rej
file that was generated and try to insert the patch by hand.
A patch can fail if, for example, a blank line is expected
but not found right next to the patch.  Anyway, if you can,
try again (with clean sources) without the patches --- that's
what I would do.

And it was ftape 4.x, too?  Ok, then that should not be the
problem.

So it was my brainfart ... I again mixed up Ditto 2GB and
Ditto (Max) Pro in that regard.  *sigh*.
