Alexandre,
I got not only the same type of drive, but the identical device.
However, I can use it with tar and mt.

1. Check out the /proc/scsi/scsi file whether it is listed in there
2. If so try to address it using the /dev/rmt0 device. E.g. mt -f
   /dev/rmt0 retension just to do tape retensioning.
 
My problem is that I got very old tape cartdiges and I assume the
lowlevel format of the cartdriges is not OK due to long storage.
