Pat,
I saw the same errors trying to compile, too, and I was not able to fix
them. I think it's a kernel thing.
However, I downloaded the "ftape-4.X-1999_0630" development
release, and it compiled cleanly & has been working very well with my
iomega ditto max parallel port drive. (So far, at least. <g>)

My environment:
RedHat 6.0 (2.2.5-15 kernel)

While attemoting to compile ftape I get the following error message.
fdc-io.c: In function 'fdc_interrupt_wait':
fdc-io.c:433 structure has no member named 'timeout'
fdc-io.c:454: structure has no member named 'timeout'
