Hi, under kernels 2.2.x you need those "unstable" drivers, that can be found at

http://www.math1.rwth-aachen.de/~heine/ftape/archives/ftape-4.x/unstable/

they used to be quite stable in the last months, but I canno tell anything
about the most recent versions, as I screwed up my last tape...
