Greetings: Been using ftape with most previous versions of Slackware
and kernels up to 2.0.36 - iOmega ditto drive.

Installing Slackware-4.0 with it's default 2.2.6 kernel has me
stumped.. insmod ftape works and lsmod looks good but
mt -f /dev/ftape retension (or any other legitimate mt argument)
returns "No such device," and, of course, /dev/ftape is there sym
linked to /dev/rft0 - major 27, minor 0.. If I rmmod ftape and invoke
the same mt command, I get the same report.. Checking I find that
ftape.o is in the proper directory AFAIK...

I then tried compiling the newest version of ftape 4.x 1999_09_11
with a good build but it reacts exactly as the default distribution
package - "No such device." no matter if insmod and lsmod seems
positive... I'm stumped.. I note the newest install adds a further
sym link to /dev/qft0..

I've researched all the rtfm's I can but must have missed something
along the way.

Anyone with something that might prod my grey cells?? Appreciate!!
