I can finally confirm that my internal Iomega Ditto 2GB works. I had
tried to get it to work using the kernels distributed with SuSE 6.0
and 6.1 to no avail. Juergen Leising's advice -- switch to 2.2.12! --
was step no. 1 to get the tape to work.

If you are using SuSE 6.0 or 6.1 and want to get your internal Iomega
Ditto 2GB to work, try the following (no warranties):

* Deinstall all the SuSE kernel sources and kernel modules. Ignore
  the yast warning.

* Download and install the 2.2.12 sources from ftp.??.kernel.org,
configure and install with kernel modules and without ftape support.

* If you are using Lilo, make sure you put the kernel in the right
place. Making zlilo puts your new kernel in root (/), the lilo
  setup expects kernels in /boot.

* Delete as much of /etc/conf.modules as possible. (Keep a backup.)
I've set char-major 4 to off (serial) and set a few things for
char-major 27 (zftape). (Mail me if you need details.)

* Get the latest unstable version (I used 1999-09-11) of ftape.

* Follow normal ftape installation procedures...
