Help getting started?

I have a Ditto 2GB external, and I can't find instructions to use it with
ftape.  No doubt I could, if I had more patience, but my linux HD is making
strange noises, so I'm a bit uptight, and really want to dump the whole fs ASAP.

I have SuSE 6.2, i.e. kernel 2.2.10 with ftape 3.04d.  I'd rather not bother
upgrading ftape unless there's a good reason to do so.  Can someone tell me
where to read how to make /dev/ftape (which already exists) point at my Ditto
via the parallel port?
