In some circumstances, yes. In others, no. CD-Writers are faster, and
CD's do have a longer shelf-life. They also have a hard limit of 650MB.
There are some CD-R's that hold 700MB, and I've heard that there is a new
format in development that will significantly increase their capacity.
Right now, we've got a 700MB hard limit. If you are doing backups of a
multi-gigabyte system, this may be an unreasonable situation. If on the
other hand, you're backups will fit on a CD-R, then it may be a reasonable
solution.
