Use the IDE-TAPE device (you may have to rebuild a kernel). Try
insmod'ing the driver (insmod ide-tape) and see if you can issue an mt
command - 'mt -f /dev/nht0 status'. The device entries are /dev/nht0
and /dev/ht0.
