i see that ftape has been droped from the debian package, from this url.... http://www.debian.org/News/weekly/current/issue/mail#1 Package: ftape (debian/main). Maintainer: Christian Meder <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 59502 raw ftape devices wrong [took out ftape-doc, ftape-module-*] i in fact, had a problem with this at one point, but have since re-compiles and re-insalled so many times that the perms have been fixed - long agao, i might add, as this bug has been in the debian bug list for some time... i undestand that ftape, linux and the like are all freeware (i know, i know...), but i have been trying to get ftape to work, on and off, on a bunch of diffrent systems, kernels and distributions, and not ONCE have i been able to make it work right, out of the box. i was JUST able to get it to work on one server that i have been trying to get it work on for sometink like a year now. in all fairness, i did give up on it and walk away in fustration, it wasnt a WHOLE year <g>
