Hi,
I have been test running ftape and various commands, like ftmt and
listtape which both work fine. However I have one question and one
problem (which isn't much? ;-) ):
Q: The Ftape Howto and the Ftape Installation and Usage Guide both
seem to be relying on mt rather than ftmt, unless in rare cases.
How are these commands related? (I thought ftmd was there to
replace mt).
P: the ftape-tool utility doesn't work. when I try, I get the
following messages:
QUOTE:
Application initialization failed: no display name and no $DISPLAY
environment variable
Error in startup script: invalid command name "image"
while executing
"image create photo ftapetoolsmallLOGO -file
{ftape-tool-small.gif} -gamma {1.0} -height {0} -width {0}"
(procedure "LoadImages" line 9)
invoked from within
"LoadImages [FtapeToolDir]"
(procedure "StartupSrc" line 2)
invoked from within
"StartupSrc"

invoked from within
"source $env(FTAPE_TOOLDIR)/ftape-tool.tcl"
(file "/usr/local/bin/ftape-tool" line 15)
UNQUOTE.
Is it my correct understanding that this is a curses application
(making a curses based menu in console), or is this a X app. I
have tried to run this from both console and X and the only
response i get is the above error when trying to invoce it from
console.
Thanks for all help.
