Aside from the pointers to the correct ftape code, already provided by
others, I see something else here.
DDS4 tapes are normally SCSI tapes. Thus the SCSI driver needs to be
compiled with tape support, at which pint the device becomes /dev/st0
and /dev/nst0.
ftape is not intended for SCSI tapes.as its name says, its for floppy
tapes.
