The point is that the devfs interface was changing very quickly after
I had released ftape-4.03 (once a day :-) )

I'll release a working version once the 2.4.0 kernel is out.
Until then, check out the snapshots at

http://www.instmath.rwth-aachen.de/~heine/ftape/archives/ftape-4.x/unstable/

or check the cvsweb interface at

http://www.instmath.rwth-aachen.de:8000/linux/ftape/ftape-driver/ftape/zftape/zftape-init.c

This avoids duplicating work. Some things are already fixed, others
aren't. The very latest version can always be accessed using the cvs
repository of ftape. It is also possible to check out the latest
version with cvs. Description how to do this can be found at

http://www.instmath.rwth-aachen.de/~heine/ftape/getting.html

Of course, patches are always welcome. But to save your time you
should first check whether things already have been fixed.

Thanks

Claus
