How about Omniback from Hewlett Packard? It's worth a look, if you want
to do backups in a heterogenous network. We use it to do backups of NT
and Linux machines on a DLT storage. The NT machine is the master (with
a good GUI to specify the backup jobs) attached to the DLT, while on the
other machines just a client has to be installed. Clients are at least
also available for Solaris and HPUX, Omniback does also work with tape
libraries and has no problems preserving owners, permissions and
symbolic links. AFAIK you can get a 30 day trial license for free.
