HP Colorado 8GB IDE

Hi,

I backup on HP Colorado 8GB IDE with
tar -cf /dev/ht0 /myFolder/ 

When I try to restore with 
tar -xf /dev/ht0 

I get the Error messages
/dev/ht0: Cannot read: Input/output error
At beginning of tape, quitting now
Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I would appreciate any suggestions?
