I had the same problem. After i installed new mlt and so ( see https://bugs.launchpad.net/openshot/+bug/807028/comments/7 ) it was fixed.

The white lines remain when video output is rendered. Tried converting the video beforehand to other formats, the problem persists. The same file plays okay (with no artefacts) when using the movie player. Running Ubuntu 10.04, installation through ubuntu software center.
