I think I know about the INVALID problem. It may have been that your video files were in a location that was previously mounted, but is now unmounted.
For me, it works like this: I start a new project, add a file in my windows partition to the project (the partition mounts automatically when I search for the file in the import window), save the project and shut down the computer. I start the computer and open the project, and find out that my files are INVALID. That is because the partition unmounts when rebooting. If you have the files on an unmounted volume, try mounting the volume, which is easiest done by just clicking on it in the file manager and then you restart OpenShot.
