Running an install of 11.10 beta2 with a Pentium G860 and Biostar TH61 motherboard. Same exact symptoms as posted here.

I have to build an /etc/asound.conf file and use alsamixer to unmute and turn up several volume settings and that's it, then this command will play a test sound over the HDMI: aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav I've spent a good two hours and launched this thread with much more detail about the problem at ubuntu forums. I'm getting close to just rolling back to 10.10 for now though.
