Video preview keeps going for some time after pausing

Bug description:
We've got a hour of videos in a project (mts converted to mp4). Now
and then, when pressing "space" key to pause the preview, the preview
video keeps going for some time. The time ranges from a second up to
15 seconds. This does not happen always, but often enough to make it
unnerving.
I'd expect the preview to stop immediately.
While this is similar to bug #876712, it is not the same - video
preview stops here finally, even if only after some time.
