Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, that solution didn't work for me... The model number for my box (0x0000d330) was already listed in the 6200ch.c file. To be sure, I downloaded the version from the 6200ch wiki, built it, and set mythtv to call it. But, I get the same results: I am able to change channels successfully once (as before), but when I try to change a second time, the channel changes on the cable box, but the backend crashes. Is this the same problem you were having (one successful change, then backend crash on the second)?
I also tried shutting down and disconnecting the computer and cable box, then restarting and reconnecting them (as suggested in the mythtv firewire wiki). This caused the cable box show up on a different node (0 instead of 1), but otherwise did not change things. My naive guess is that my problem is related to how the mpeg stream is being processed, rather than a firewire issue, but that is based only on where the program crashes.
