Faulty hardware? What happens if you make usbnet.c not
invoke usb_set_interface() ?
Also, those Prolific devices need some strange reset handshake;
maybe that's causing trouble here. Does it happen when you
completely unplug the device and then plug it in? Sometimes
that seems to be needed to make initialization behave, though
I don't recall that symptom before.
