Hi,
I've recently installed kernel 2.4.2 and as a result taken to using USB
(theoretically much better for me than borrowing a windows PC).
Anyway I've got a fuji finepix 1400 working fine, it connects/disconnects
with no problems at all (ocasionally needs usb-storage manually unplugging,
but that's not a problem).
The problem I have is that I recently borrowed my flatmates Imation Superdisk.
As with anything USB I simply plugged it in, and expected it to hotplug. (I
removed my camera for this so there would be no confusion with the ports).
/proc/bus/usb/devices announced that it connected properly.
/proc/scsi/scsi had it attached to SCSI 2 (I have ide-scsi for my CDRW and
advansys for my zip drive). which was the same as my camera should have been.
Inserting a disk into it and doing
mount -tvfat /dev/sdb /mnt/camera
told me that I had a 1MB disk in the drive, but that it was incorrectly
formatted. - I tried it with various disks, and the same result all the time.
I've now given it back to my flatmate, who when plugging it back into his Mac
(G4/os9) gets the error disk unformatted, or the system just whirrs a bit and
crashes his computer. The drive has not undergone any drops or anything
obvious, so somehow the hardware seems to be affected.
My question is, has anyone seen this behaviour before?
Has anyone got any possible solution (all types of power cycle have been
tried)
Have I done anything wrong? (I installed everything from the web to the specs
for Kernel 2.4.2 and hotplug on saturday, so latest versions of everything).
Is there any more information that I could give that would help?
Cheers
Will
