[linux-usb-devel] latest usb source compilation

This is a basic question:

I have download usb-20000314.tgz from http://usb.cs.tum.edu/download/usb.
I don't know how to compile. I have tried the various Makefile, copying
the sources to my kernel sources, trying patches with .diff
files... Nothing!

So what is the proper to compile the latest Linux USB support?
