This happens to me too sometimes.
For some reason sometimes a hub port seem to refuse the device. After a while it is
usually prepared
to accept the device again.
The hub driver successfully completes it's processing, but the mgmt application is not
capable of
talking to the modem. (everything times out) Unplug/Plug results in the same. (Usually
the device
also refuses it's first assigned address.)
I can work around this with using another port on my hub or *horror* rebooting with
modem unplugged.
I have no good explanation.
