1/HZ of a second. Where HZ is a preprocessor constant dependant on platform,
cpu and other stuff

The new version of Linux Device Drivers is out (about 2.2/2.4 kernels) you
might want to get a copy. It'll help a lot. Don't get the old one (about 1.2
and 2.0)
