Greetings,
After positive feedback of all 3 people who reported problems with the PWC
driver and machines with >= 1 GB after upgrading their driver to version
8.2, I can safely assume the issue has been resolved. In the end, it turned
out to be a simple change from using vmalloc_32() instead of vmalloc().
However, this leaves me with one thing that has been bothering me for some
time: each video device uses its own copy of rmvalloc() and friends. So far
Ive counted 6 instances of the same code. And as it turns out now, a small
(but appearantly significant) change made it into some drivers but not in
others. Isnt it about time these functions are removed from all drivers,
and a single, exported function is placed at the apropriate place in the
kernel? Or another mechanism is used in place (I remember reading something
about userspace kio_vect, but that doesnt sound like its finished or
compatible with mmap())
NB: Id be willing to make the apropriate patches, if we can reach consensus.
