Or, if you're willing to hack a bit of Java/JNI code, jUSB.

That might work nicely with the TinyVM code running in the
device, for those using that instead of native code.  (Both
"TinyVM" and "jUSB" projects are hosted at sourceforge.net,
many thanks to VA Linux! :)
