So far as I know, nobody's working on a kernel driver, and
I wouldn't expect one either.

Many thanks for the hints, I downloaded jphoto and will take a closer
look at it. I've seen that the Still Image Capture Device class
uses the PTP Protocoll which sound according to the introduction
very interesting. Is anyone working on a kernel driver version of 
this thing ?
