I have a external 20Gb hard disk plugable
via USB.

I want to use it as the root file system of Linux.
Following comments from Matthew Dharm
I patched a 2.4 kernel to delay the mount of
the root file system at boot time, so USB devices
can be detected, and then mounted as root.

It works (almost) perfectly.

The "extrange" problem I have is that
(no matter the HD is being
used as root file system or simply as an
additional disk) there are occasions in which
the HD seems to be blocked, and this disrupts
the normal function of linux (I have to hard reboot linux).
It is extrange because, even used as root file system,
I worked with the HD normally (and fast) a whole day.

I would like to solve this problem.
I read the web page

http://www2.one-eyed-alien.net/~mdharm/linux-usb/

and I think that I have some time available to
help the project by
testing the driver (mass storage) with my device.

Which instructions should I follow?
