Hi all,
With those two patches I just sent to Alan against his tree, the USB
tree in Linus and Alan's trees are almost identical. Here is the
remaining differences:
hub.c and hub.h
- A locking fix by Pete is in the -ac tree that Linus
and Johannes do not like. I will not be sending this
difference to Linus. If you have USB problems at
startup (like with Kudzu or other system probing
programs), use the -ac version.
storage/unusual_devs.h
- the -ac tree has a bit different version of this file.
I'll leave it up to Matt (the usb-storage author) if
he wants to resolve this.
id75.c
- This driver is in the -ac tree and not Linus's. I
haven't sent this to Linus, as it uses a minor number,
and I didn't think any new drivers that did that would
be accepted. If you have this device, stick to the
-ac tree for now.
Makefile
- small difference in how drivers are ordered. No
functional difference here at all.
Config.in
- different layout of these files between the trees, but
functionally they are the same (as far as I can tell.)
Why was this done?
If anyone sees anything else that is different in the trees, please let
me know. And if anyone thinks the above differences should be resolved,
also let me know.
Hopefully, the two different kernels will not get so far out of sync
with regards to the USB section again.
thanks,
greg k-h
