If multiple identical devices are connected, topology is the one and
only way for the user to differentiate between the devices.  If
topology is removed from usbdevfs (or whatever new userspace interface
is coming) then it will be impossible to tell the difference between 2
identical devices (without performing user-involved tests on the
devices).
