Argh!  Why would someone use the same device id???

Anyway, is there anyway to automatically detect which kind of device
this is (endpoints look different, strings, etc?)  How far apart is the
protocol to talk to the device from the catc.c driver?  I'd like there
to only be one driver if possible to prevent user problems.
