post scriptum:

1)
this is really the only combination that works
(tried uhci, usbmouse, usbkeyb...)

2)
 unfortunately syslog is flooded with:

kernel: keyboard.c: can't emulate rawmode for keycode 274
kernel: keyboard.c: can't emulate rawmode for keycode 272
last message repeated 149 times
kernel: keyboard.c: can't emulate rawmode for keycode 274
kernel: keyboard.c: can't emulate rawmode for keycode 274
kernel: keyboard.c: can't emulate rawmode for keycode 272
last message repeated 268 times
last message repeated 41 times
kernel: keyboard.c: can't emulate rawmode for keycode 273
last message repeated 3 times
kernel: keyboard.c: can't emulate rawmode for keycode 272
last message repeated 198 times
last message repeated 6 times

for now I just commented the offending print in kernel source

3)
"sometimes" mouse just stops working
"sometimes" of being maybe once or twice a day
this is independent of currently running application
sometimes it's enough to plug out and back in
sometimes I have to quit X, plug out/in and restart X

I still can't see a particular pattern, maybe time will tell

Martin
