The devices which will conform to standard USB classes will have 
Linux support out of box.

The example is newer Phison/AVL 5in1 SmartMedia/CF/etc. USB card reader
which will have USB 2.0 version at the end of the year and it will
conform to standard Storage Class.

So it is rather the problem of using standard classes in devices,
not proprietary extensensions.
