It should work for any ethernet type device, although I haven't actually 
tried it over usbnet.

Your local kernel.org mirror has a directory /pub/software/networking/zcip, 
where you will find a slightly out of date program that should be able to 
create a functional link if you run it on both ends (with the -i option to 
get the usb0 link, instead of eth0).

In the longer term, I think that it is a good candidate for the hotplug 
support for such devices.
