Unlike?

My conjecture about the origin is this:
A company perhaps called PrimeFilm, or perhaps Carry, or perhaps
something else, made the USB chip for a 6-in-1 Compact Flash,
SmartMedia, Memory Stick, Secure Digital, etc. device.
This chip has been used in many devices with a varying
amount of physical buildup around it. Some of these are
readers for one kind of card, some are dual readers,
some are multiple readers.
The device I actually have here only reads SmartMedia, so does not need
all these endpoints. A single pair suffices.

> Why on earth is usb-storage even trying to claim this device?

Because, unless I am much mistaken, this device will work fine
under Linux within a few days.
But unlike earlier devices I wrote a driver for, this one forces
me to learn more about the surrounding USB code.
