Have you already uploaded the new firmware? There is a bug in the old
(original) firmware which causes problems with linux.

Have a look at
        http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=491
and download the new firmware from
http://www.cypress.com/cfuploads/support/reference_design/C700C418-E43B-4165-B41C924687ED5001_soft_1.zip
(hopefully this link is permanent).

Follow the instructions from Link 1 (User comments) for uploading the 
2.6c firmware. I have the same device and had to install the new 
firmware. Hot-plugging might be a problem too, so you may have to unload 
and reload the host usb driver (e.g. rmmod usb-uhci;modprobe usb-uhci).
