Then you must close all open files or you have a security risk.
Suspension in practice no longer works.

That is not enough.
Indeed it presupposes that a device has a MAC address which is not always
the case.
You need to restore IP, MAC and multicast settings. For ethernet, other
devices like WLAN probably need more.
