Just for reference: what looks to be the same problem that I'm having
(the USB and mouse disconnecting and never getting re-initialized, at
random times and for no apparent reason) was just reported in the new
thread "USB Device Driver Hang in Gnome." So I'm not going crazy. :-)

Does anybody have any clue as to what's going on? Please see also the
URL that I originally posted, which is a link to a page where I found
the problem reported by someone else (and never solved):

  http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue76/tag/4.html

So now I know of three specific individuals who have experienced the
problem. As I said in my original post, many others probably
experienced it and just thought their machine had locked-up, so never
reported it to any USB mailing-list.

I had it happen again last night, at a time where I was away from the
machine for about 2 minutes -- I came back, and no kbd/mouse. So my
original thought that it happens more often when the machine is under
load may or may not be correct.

Thanks,
Luke Hutchison.
