Sweet!  That's the way we've been doing it most of the time already. 
I did noticed that you release it before downing the semaphore.  I 
really do think that this is the way to go on the road to putting a 
normal spinlock in there.

No, I prefer my desk monitor, or my Thinkpad lid if I'm on the road :)
