simple != correct. Maybe it doesn't win a beauty award, but it works very
reliably.

And regarding the "arbitrary processing limits": I never trust hardware
_AND_ software. I've used enough drivers (from network to DVB), which
sometimes decided to have an infinite loop in the interrupt. I doubt that
anyone had a performance penalty with these limits...
