I'm new to Linux and have been diving into the USB support over the past few weeks. I originally intended on using the usbfs but found too many issues and wasn't able to use the asynch. API's. David Brownell has been very helpful!
I have found all of the documention I can locate on the hotplugging, USB support, and the usb-skeleton code. I have questions on how one goes from correctly modified skeleton source to actually using the driver from a user mode app. So, eventually the goal is to read/write/ioctl or whatever. Assuming that the device doesn't need to have firmware downloaded and that the skeleton has been modified as required.... I am looking for a step-by-step to building the driver and getting it running. I know it might be a lot to ask.... Im using RedHat 7.3 with the supplied 2.4.18-3 kernel. I've read so much stuff on Linux drivers and USB hotplugging but I can't seem to figure what I need to get things configured properly and get the /dev/usb entries in place so tha I can open the device. Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to clarify this!
