As you can see, there's a 3 second delay between assigning of the address and the calling of probe(). I've never seen that before.
As I recall that's from hotplug ... a workaround for one host
controller not supporting control queueing yet. :) Not to
worry, though on later 2.5 kernels it'll be good to avoid that
sleep. (Call me impatient, but 3 seconds is clearly into the
"user perceives slowness" level of delay.)
