OK, I'm confused too. Everything looks fine.

At this stage, I can only suggest an strace on the modprobe, to see where it 
is looking for configuration. I just did a dummy run, and except for 
/etc/conf.modules (which you probably don't have anyway), it seems to only 
look in the two files that have no effect anyway.
