Well, the reset logic is slow because some devices need that much time.
On the other hand, 15-30+ minutes to do a sync (without whatever
error Greg's hitting) is excessive. Makes the machine unusable
when the drive has problems (for any reason).

It'd be better to have no added delays unless we know the device
needs them ... rather than making all devices sleep six seconds
after each attempt to recover a fault.
