Is it hanging, or does the disk activity light keep going?

I tried compiling from:

bk://kernel.bkbits.net/david-b/linux/gadget-2.5

and I think that this repository (and possibly its parents) defaults to a
weird combination of settings for the console. I'm recompiling now (on a
233 MHz Pentium, so it could be some time) but I think you want to turn on
VGA text console support, and turn off the framebuffer console (on x86
platforms, anyway).

In case I'm way off on this one, I'm copying the linux-usb-devel list to
see if any kind souls out there wouldn't mind posting a working .config
for recent 2.5 kernels.
