... the probe() question is whether the driver will handle _that_ interface. It's not an invitation to claim different interfaces and leave that alone, or change the configuration (breaking other driver bindings).
This is another manufactured problem. If you have only one driver, there is no question of "breaking other driver bindings".
But the fact is that "one driver per device" can't be any more than an implementation option for some device drivers. One that's already supported.
And for drivers that can work with composite devices (like combined audio + HID), this is a very real issue. Not "manufactured".
