I have, though, two different high speed devices (a scanner and a memory key), both of which get handed off to the companion hub. What's up with that?
Sounds like some kind of hardware issue -- are you sure those are really "high speed" devices not just "usb (2.0)"?
Speed detection is done by the hardware early during enumeration. It's basically out of the hands of host side software, unless maybe your BIOS is committing bizarrity.
